Delay Analysis Challenges in Primavera P6

In Primavera P6, a “Stacked Histogram” is a graphical representation of resource allocation and usage over time. It provides a visual display of how resources are assigned to activities throughout the project schedule. Creating a Stacked Histogram in Primavera P6 aims to gain insights into resource utilization, identify potential resource conflicts, and make informed decisions regarding resource allocation and leveling.

Assuming all the other steps for scheduling are done like Activity List, relationships, etc.

Following are the steps involved in creating the Stacked Histogram.

Define the craft-wise / Role-wise / Name-wise resources as per the below Table:

In Primavera P6, Resource definition can be seen like this:

Assign the resources to the activities

Define the Budgeted Units (No. of resources per day)

Go to the toolbar of “Resource Usage Profile”

Right Click in the chart area and select the “Stacked Histogram”

Then Click “Resource Usage Profile Options”

In the Data Tab, add the following Filter Criteria

Above Histogram reflects the month-wise Man-hours / Man-days assigned to the project activities.

Same option can be used for the Non-Labor Units and Material resources

We can further filter out the Design Engineers by following the below steps

Go to print preview page set up Options Select “Profile”

In the options tab, unselect Activity Table, All columns, Gridlines, and Gantt chart.

Set the time scale starting from “PS-Earliest Project Start” to “PF-Latest Project Finish” or any customized scale as per requirement

Click “APPLY”

Click “OK”
