In this article, I am going to share with you my personal experience as a Construction Manager in a small construction management firm here in the Philippines. By the way, I am working here for 2 years now as an Assistant Construction Manager and our company is handling high-rise construction projects from foundation to finish. I’ll try to explain the construction manager’s responsibilities as well.

Project management plays a big role in construction projects like this. Currently, our project is a 32-story warehouse building that has deep foundations called bored piles. Bored piles are used to provide support to structures, transferring their load to soil layers of soil or rock to have sufficient bearing capacity and suitable settlement characteristics.
Owners hire us to make sure that the projects are well-monitored and that we are playing the part of the balancer or evaluator between the owner and the general contractor. The contractor seeks our advice and recommendations before executing the scope of work. Without our approval, nothing could be done. We are also seeking and consulting the Architect’s and the Structural Engineer’s approval if we can’t decide on some technical issues with regard to design.

Construction Managers are having our weekly job site meeting to provide reports with everybody, especially with the Owner. We keep on discussing ahead of our schedule the scope of work we are planning to do to avoid delays. Construction Managers also consider the risks and problems with these scopes which may take and of course how to deal with them.
In this way, our project keeps on going and smooth sailing as we follow such procedures of construction project management. I can say that it is a must to learn construction management, project scheduling, and cost efficiency. It will not only save you money, but it will also save time which will lead to more profit and sales.
